For the annotation it is required to follow a set of courses (>15ECTS) and have an entrepreneurial focus within your graduation project. Below there is a link to the list of courses that qualify for the annotation on the website of DCE.

Entrepreneurial focus in the sense of the annotation can vary from graduating on the start of your own business to establishing entrepreneurial (design & innovation) projects within existing business environments.

If you have gained enough entrepreneurial credits (≥15ec) including an entrepreneurial focus within your graduation project, you will be able to apply for the annotation and receive the Certificate of the Annotation Entrepreneurship along with your MSc degree.

Requirements for IDE students

Within two of the three MSc’s at IDE, some of the compulsory courses already qualify for the annotation. For the specifics per MSc please see below.

Specifics for SPD-students

The SPD-courses below qualify for the TU Delft Entrepreneurship Annotation:

  • New Product Economics: 3 EC
  • Design Strategy Project: 12 EC
  • Design Roadmapping: 3 EC
  • Brand & Product Commercialization: 8 EC
  • Strategic Value of Design: 3 EC
  • Total EC for the Master Annotation Entrepreneurship: 29 EC

The compulsory program of SPD provides already 29 EC of courses within the domain of entrepreneurship. In addition to these courses the student needs to perform a graduation project within industry or for a startup (your own?) for attaining the final qualification of the annotation.

There is no need for SPD-students to add an extra 5 EC to their graduation project. If in industry or for a startup, there will be enough entrepreneurial topics addressed within the learning goals of the SPD-program.

Specifics for IPD

The IPD-courses below qualify for the TU Delft Entrepreneurship Annotation:

  • Managing Product Innovation: 3 EC
  • Strategic Sustainable Design: 3 EC
  • Total EC for the Master Annotation Entrepreneurship: 6 EC

The compulsory program of IPD provides 6 EC of courses within the domain of entrepreneurship. In addition to these 6 EC a minimum of 9 EC is needed for being able to deserve the TU Delft Master Annotation Entrepreneurship. These minimum of 9 EC courses on topics related to entrepreneurship can be part of the elective space. See below for some of these courses that IDE provides and look at the website of the Delft Center of Entrepreneurship for more electives. In addition to this, the graduation project must be performed in industry and must include a subject within the field of entrepreneurship. See below for some suggestions.

Specifics for DFI

There are no specific courses within the DfI program that qualify for the TU Delft Master Annotation Entrepreneurship. Therefore, a minimum of 15 EC of electives related to entrepreneurship is needed for being able to obtain the annotation. See below for some of these courses that IDE provides and look at the website of the Delft Center of Entrepreneurship for more electives. In addition to this, the  graduation project must be performed in industry and must include a subject within the field of entrepreneurship. See below for some suggestions.

Subjects for graduation assignments, DfI & IPD

The following subjects could form the focus for the entrepreneurial work within the
graduation assignment.

  • Performing market research
  • Concept testing, focus groups, etc.
  • Linking and embedding the design assignment to the strategic direction of the company
  • Assignment embedded in company’s product and NPD-portfolio
  • Brand driven innovation
  • Building a business case for the new product or service (including revenue model)
  • Developing an implementation plan
  • Developing a market introduction plan
  • Incorporating strategic choices on subjects as: product platforms, collaboration with suppliers, value chain considerations, etc.

Chose the subject that fits best to your assignment in collaboration with your company coach, chair and IDE-coach. In the case of doubts please contact Frido Smulders. He is responsible for the annotation within IDE.

Graduation report for DFI and IPD

The work done during your graduation work for the Entrepreneurship Annotation doesn’t need to be presented in a separate document. If possible, the best is to have a separate chapter(s) in your final report or at least identifiable parts of chapters.
