The Systemic Design Lab is happy to invite you to their next Systemic Design Talk which will be offered by Josina Vink of Oslo School of Architecture & Design, who will be sharing with us their research on Service Ecosystem Design. The talk will take place via Zoom on Thursday 21st April 12:30-13:30. You can register for this talk by sending an email to systemicdesignlab-io@tudelft.nl.

Josina Vink is Associate Professor of Service Design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) and Design Lead within the Center for Connected Care (C3) in Norway. Josina has over a decade of experience working as a service and systems designer in healthcare systems in Canada, the United States, and Sweden. In their practice, they have developed new services, supported policy change, facilitated shifts in mental models across sectors, and led social lab processes. Josina’s research explores how design can create profound and significant change in health and care systems by reshaping social structures. They have published in journals such as Design Studies, Design Journal, International Journal of Design, She Ji, Journal of Service Management and Journal of Service Research.

This talk on service ecosystem design will challenge the fundamental assumptions of design to build a more systemic understanding of the practice. Drawing from examples of Experio Lab, a group working with design in the Swedish healthcare system, this talk will present an alternative framework for designing within complex social systems. The focus of the framework is on intentionally shaping social structures – shared and entrenched norms, rules, roles, values and beliefs – to cultivate systems transformation. A collection of practical designerly approaches for attending to social structures will be introduced to inform a more mindful and influential systemic design practice.
