3D printing living materials: Optimizing the longevity and photosynthetic ability of microalgae structures
Jul 2021 -
ongoing
MSc student Vivian Vriend worked on improving the mechanical properties and structural stability of a 3D printing material made from microalgae. By refining the alginate-based bio-ink, the project created porous structures with better longevity and photosynthetic activity. This increases the microalgae's access to light, air, and nutrients, potentially boosting oxygen release and CO2 fixation.
