Exploring how a systemic design approach contributes to improving mental-wellbeing among secondary school students.
Oct 2023 - ongoing
Secondary school students (ages 16-18) experience problems with their mental well-being. A wide range of factors can contribute to this issue: pressure at school, social pressure, social media, high expectations of parents and the pressure to perform in all areas of their life: school, side jobs, free time, sports, music, friends, etc.
About the project
Current solutions mainly focus on individual stakeholders or factors that do not consider the broader context affecting young people’s well-being. To explore how we can design solutions that take into account this broader context Kristen takes a systemic approach. This includes mapping the context with system stakeholders (students, their parents, teachers, schools, policymakers, etc.) to develop a giga-map to further understand how roles and relationships in the system affect young people’s wellbeing. The aim is to design safe-to-fail experiments that foster systems change.
