Prototyping a Connected E-Bike
Apr 2022 - ongoing
Cycling has always been a popular means of transport in the Netherlands and is still growing in popularity everywhere in Europe. The Netherlands is a front-runner in adopting this new way of transport for commuting, leisure, or business meetings. The growing popularity of E-bikes has many advantages; it is a healthy alternative to less active means of transport. E-bikes are considered sustainable since they have zero emissions in use and prove to be advantageous for the energy transition. No license is needed to ride them, they do not cause traffic jams, and they have become affordable for more consumers. At the same time, the digital revolution and the influx of new technologies and materials will change the appearance, function, and role of bicycles and E-bikes. E-bikes with integrated sensors and intelligence could create many new opportunities to increase user experience, safety, and quality. The goal of this project is to investigate the possibilities of creating a Smart Connected E-bike through a process combining behavioural data to explore uncharted design directions.
