At IIL, we study how AI-powered systems can augment human capabilities rather than replace them. Our work brings together machine learning, multimodal sensing, and hybrid intelligence to create tools that amplify human expertise, capture tacit knowledge, and enable more adaptive, sustainable, and meaningful industrial processes.
Rather than focusing solely on concepts, IIL grounds its research in real-world contexts: from smart factories to hospital wards, classrooms, and energy networks. Through co-creation and participatory methods, we prototype and evaluate AI systems that sense, reason, and interact, making industry more intelligent and resilient.
Our research agenda spans multiple scales—from operator-level decision support to organizational intelligence—with projects that combine data science, design research, and cognitive systems engineering. Ultimately, IIL aims to shape a new generation of intelligent industrial systems that are transparent, trustworthy, and aligned with human values.
