DelftTech Trials: advancing ethical debate in technology & engineering education
Apr 2025 - ongoing
The Justice by Design Lab was awarded a grant from TU Delft’s Open Education Stimulation Fund.
Mock trial is an innovative teaching method for technology ethics in design and engineering education. This method, which engages students in role-playing as attorneys, petitioners, and respondents to litigate contentious issues, can be both engaging and effective in fostering critical thinking and respectful debate on the social impacts of emerging technologies.
To support adoption of the method both within TU Delft and beyond, the project’s funds will be used to develop and distribute educational materials under an open-access license, ensuring widespread accessibility for educators interested in organising mock trials.
If you would like to collaborate in this project and explore how mock trials can be integrated into education across the TU Delft, please contact Fernando Secomandi (Director of the Justice by Design Lab).
