Threading Connections: Enhancing Seller-Buyer Engagement through Communication of Product Properties
Feb 2024 - ongoing
A study about optimising visual communication between buyers and sellers in second hand marketplaces such as Vinted.
In her self initiated project, Adinda Januardani investigated communication bottlenecks in visual communication of second hand platforms. Unlike ‘normal’ online shops, the second hand market does not have a photography department: all sellers take their own idiosyncratic approaches to listing their products! During both qualitative research conducted in our studios, as well as in quantitative studies online with 100 participants, Adinda Januardani identified 4 bottlenecks:
- Communicating signs of use
- Communicating colours
- Communicating the correct size
- Communicating material properties
After this initial research, she investigated various design solutions to improve the generic interface of online shops.
